Two Horse Race Venues Locked in Heated Dispute

Two South Florida horse race venues, the Calder Race Course and the Gulfstream Park, have escalated their dispute in a last-minute negotiating session between their executives. Calder announced this week that it would no longer allow horses stabled at Calder to return if they raced at Gulfstream, which is about 8 miles away.
This is due to a move by Gulfstream to change it's racing dates to overlap with Calder racing dates in December. For years the two venues had respected each other's dates and peacefully coexisted. After the move by Gulfstream to change dates, Calder resonded with an application for year-round racing dates, and the Gulfstream did the same. Each side has until Monday to finalize their applications with the state, which will automatically approve the year-round race dates.
